Winter is upon us, and for some, that means a major hit to the wardrobe. Outfits picked with style and care are covered up with hats, coats and mittens. FORTUNATELY, we've been able to find some great layering options in the shop! Here are some favorites of our Jen, Erin and Jennifer.

Erin Picks

Amano Studio : We love our Amano Studio pieces, crafted in Sonoma CA. Erin added some boho elements to her outfit with this cool arrowhead necklace and worn gold circle/line earrings.

Leather : Leather jackets are timeless, and that's a really valuable quality when it comes to fashion. Erin picked out this grey jacket to add a little edge to her outfit- lots of fun details like its double-diagonal zip pockets, folder-over side zip front, and comfortable/worn material. BONUS : easy to wipe off if you have kids :]

Short Boots : Short boots during the winter season offer warm and practical coverage without being too bulky and cumbersome. Granted, they may not be the best for shoveling your car out of the ditch, but they're great for indoor day jobs, running errands, or meeting friends for lunch. Erin loves her plain, black suede boots because they match with nearly every outfit.

Fitted Plaid : Plaid is just awesome in any form. This green/black fitted plaid from Thread & Supply is great for layering, especially under shorter or more fitted jackets like our leather jacket pick. Darted seams in the back make this fitted style flattering, and fun with the diagonal plaid on the shoulders.

Jen Picks

Quilted Vest : Good quilted vests can be hard to find, but this one is the ticket! Its a perfect mix of outdoor-sy with the olive quilting, and stylish with the (faux) leather trim pockets and shoulders. A great light way to warm up an outfit without completely covering it up!

Fringe Bag : We <3 fringe at Yellow Umbrella. These great fringe bags (available in black and camel) add some fun texture and length to an outfit. (Most of the YU staff have one of these beauties)

Plaid / Elbow Patch : Taking the traditional flannel and making it fun!

Winter Knits : An easy fix to add warmth to an outfit without the bulk - this beanie has been a Best Seller in our brick & mortar shop! Boot cuffs are another great fashion invention - they peek up from the top of your boot (regardless of the boot height) and look like leg warmers without the bunching knit in your boot! These have been another Best Seller in the shop for the past 2 years, and one-size-fits-all make for a great gift!

Jennifer Picks

Turkish Silver : Bling up any outfit with these awesome Bohemian jewels - Turkish Silver. Also seen with Free People.

Buffalo Plaid : Bemidji + Buffalo plaid, enough said. This super trendy pattern has a love connection to our city, the land of Paul Bunyan. This button-up style can also be a great layering piece, wear as a cardigan and leave the front open to show off your graphic tee.

Graphic Tee / Text : Minimalism is making a comeback in a big way right now, and that's trickling into fashion! Plain tees with a bold and simple font add an edgy or hip element to an outfit.

Long Cardigans : Long cardigans are perfect for pairing with tunics and leggings or skinny jeans; they're a necessity in the Midwest.

 Happy winter layering!
